Women of Reform Judaism
a.k.a  Sisterhood
Sisterhood Co-Presidents Elizabeth Wandelmaier and Robby Saiff

Sisterhood is the organization of the women of the Congregation who join together in friendship for programs to benefit the synagogue and  the greater community, for social activities, for study and above all, for the growth of the individual, so that each may find an opportunity to fulfill her potential as a person and as a Jewish woman.

Sisterhood is part of an international network of Women of Reform Judaism. Women of Reform Judaism is the women’s affiliate of the Union for Reform Judaism, the central body of Reform Judaism in North America . Established in 1913, WRJ now represents more than 75,000 women in over 500 women’s groups in North America and around the world. http://WomenofReformJudaism.org

Our Sisterhood partners with groups throughout the congregation to support every aspect of synagogue life.  This past year we worked with the Music Committee to sponsor the Rick Recht Concert; with the newly formed Environmental Committee to host a program with Rabbi Lawrence Troster on Spirituality of Environmentalism and Michelle Mitzvah Group to provide baskets and food for the Center for Food Action. Our annual Tricky Tray fundraiser allows us to support Hebrew School , Adult Education and other educational programs and special Onegs, including one for Grandparents Shabbat.  On going activities include Jewish Yoga (imagine chanting Shaloooooooooooom) and a knitting group that donates blankets to children in need. We plan to continue to host an annual Miriam Seder with participation growing every year.

The Barbara Weiss Scholarship fund was created to honor the memory of a longtime sisterhood member. All money contributed to this fund is used for scholarships for temple youth. Sisterhood makes a significant annual contribution to sustain the fund. Rabbi Mosbacher determines the need for scholarships and all awards are handled anonymously.

Activities in the works for 2007-2008 program year, include a trip to a Reform Mikvah, a latke cook-off and the sale of our 36th Anniversary Holiday and Shabbat Cookbook. And of course, Tricky Trays is already on the calendar!

Sisterhood is an easy way to participate in the synagogue. You can come to one event or to them all. We welcome volunteers who have only an hour and we’re happy to find work if you have more time to give.
