CENTER FOR FOOD ACTION
The mission of the Center for Food Action in Mahwah, New Jersey is to
prevent hunger and homelessness and improve the lives of individuals and families.
They provide emergency food, utility and housing assistance, advocacy and counseling services and access to other community resources. CFA helps their clients find solutions to their problems, achieve financial stability and create a brighter future.
The CFA pantry sites in Mahwah and Ringwood depend on food and monetary donations to keep the shelves filled with a supply of emergency groceries.
These are our neighbors who are going to sleep hungry every night. The Center for Food Action is located down the street from the Temple on Campgaw Road at the Police and Fire Academy.
Please see below how all of us at the Temple can help our hungry neighbors.
FOOD:
The CFA feeds up to 150 families weekly. They help up to 1,000 families during the Thanksgiving and Christmas and Hanukah holidays. Many needy families in Bergen County do not qualify for legal assistance or welfare. The only place they have to turn to are places such as the Center for Food Action.
All of the CFA pantry sites depend on donations to keep the shelves filled with a supply of emergency groceries.
They always need canned meat, canned chicken, tuna fish, canned hash, Parmalat, boxed juice, peanut butter, jelly, pasta sauce with meat, soy formula with iron, Ensure, and diapers.
Please leave your food donations in the baskets set up at the front of the Temple.
This food will be delivered to the CFA monthly.
FUNDS
The CFA depends on the community's generosity to support their work. They have been blessed by a broad spectrum of commitment - from the pennies brought by kindergarteners to substantial corporate support.
There will also be a box set up at the front of the Temple for any donations you would like to give. All donations will be greatly appreciated.
FOLKS
Volunteers are the heart and backbone of CFA. They need people to work in their pantries and at various events. Each of the centers needs folks to pack and sort groceries and do a variety of other jobs. There are opportunities for people of all ages to help.
They need volunteers, especially in the pantry at the Mahwah site, between 10-2 each weekday.
If you would like to volunteer please call Bev Sullivan at 201 934 5085.
Thank you for your support of the Center for Food Action
